Bogotá's El Dorado International Airport (BOG), or El Dorado Luis Carlos Galán Sarmiento International Airport to give it its full name, is located on the western outskirts of Bogotá in Fontibón, at an altitude of 2,548 meters above sea level - a fact you'll feel before drinking your first cup of coffee. It's the country's largest airport and one of the largest air hubs in Latin America, linking Colombia to North America, Europe, Central America, the Caribbean and the main South American cities. Terminal 1 is where most of your interaction with the airport will take place - it's here where the majority of international and domestic flights depart and arrive, while Terminal 2 (Puente Aéreo) is primarily reserved for domestic flights. But what stands out about El Dorado isn't just its size, it's the very Colombian pace of life: modern enough to be effective and congested enough to keep you awake, but with little niches of food, coffee and retail to keep you distracted.
